What it's about:
Don’t miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams, Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen…

One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.” Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.

Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.

Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…

My thoughts:
Once I read the blurb on what Born at Midnight was about, I knew I had to read it. Vampires, werewolves, fae, and ghost? At a camp? Awesome!

After reading a chapter or two, I was pretty nervous for the book. Kylie complained a lot (she had good reason too) but lately when I read a book that has a lot of complaining in the beginning, I end up not liking the MC and then not liking the book. Thankfully I didn't have to worry about this for long. I ended up really liking Kylie. She was strong in a normal person way. Not like a Rose Hathaway type strong. She has good morals and is all around very likable.

Hunters supernaturals have their own twists to them that I liked a lot. I liked how different the vampires, fae, and werewolves were compared to all the other books out there. She didn't stick to the norm and I liked that a lot.

The relationships, both friendships and otherwise, were really great. You could actually feel the connections and the relationships growing. The reader wasn't just told everyone was friends and that was that, but actually be able to see and relate to them. I think that was my favorite part of this book, watching Kylie bond with Della, Miranda, Holiday, and the rest of them.

So overall, I really enjoyed this book. It kept me guessing and had me laughing out loud a lot (check the sex. hahahahaha). I'm glad that I haven't figured out all the questions that were asked in this book yet which is a sign of great writing. I normally guess pretty easily what is going to happen. I'm dying to get my hands on the next book of this series which will be released October 11, 2011.

My rating: 10/10

  4. Hmmm, I'd decided to pass this one up but I might check it out now. I like a book that doesn't follow the norm.

I love getting comments! I'm always checking to see if I have any new comments. It's actually pretty sad how often I check for them really. So if there is anything you want to say about a post of mine, please say it! I want feedback :)

As of lately, I'm making the blog a no-award blog. I love getting them and I'm always honored, but I don't have the time to do all the things that are required of them. Sorry :(
Also, my "reply" button does not seem to be working in my comments on my computer. I have to use a different computer to reply back so if I don't reply, it's not because I'm rude, it's just that I can't.
