What it's about:
Seventeen-year-old Lochan and sixteen-year-old Maya have always felt more like friends than siblings. Together they have stepped in for their alcoholic, wayward mother to take care of their three younger siblings. As defacto parents to the little ones, Lochan and Maya have had to grow up fast. And the stress of their lives--and the way they understand each other so completely--has also also brought them closer than two siblings would ordinarily be. So close, in fact, that they have fallen in love. Their clandestine romance quickly blooms into deep, desperate love. They know their relationship is wrong and cannot possibly continue. And yet, they cannot stop what feels so incredibly right. As the novel careens toward an explosive and shocking finale, only one thing is certain: a love this devastating has no happy ending.

My thoughts:
This is not a book for the light of heart (or the younger readers out there).

Yes, this book is about incest. Now before you freak out too much, don't. Yes it is gross but this book is so amazing that it is worth getting over the ick factor and just read it. Once you read it, most likely you will forget that they are even related and get completely sucked into the story. After the first few pages, I felt immediately compelled to sit there and finish the book as fast as I could. The second I finished reading it, I had to text my friends and tell them how amazing it was. Then I signed on here and now I'm writing this. Yes, it's that good.

By having every chapter switch between Maya and Lochan's POV, it made the story really strong. If it would have  only been from one of their POV, it would not have been nearly as good. By being in both of their heads, it was easier to understand their situation, to understand why they have the feelings they do for each other. Their mother is an absent mother, leaving Lochan and Maya to play the roles of parents and take care of their three younger siblings even though they are only teens themselves. Honestly, I was rooting for these two to be able to be together. They have such a horrible life and deserved some happiness.

I won't be forgetting this book anytime soon. It made me cry an abnormal amount for a book and was very powerful.

  1. Great review! I've read a few incest stories and when done right, they're absolutely beautiful. No ick factor at all really. Definitely checking this one out ;)

  2. I am definitely disturbed by the whole incest thing, but since you seem to highly recommend the book, I may be interested in giving it a read.

  4. I got the chance to read this book recently, and I too thought it was amazing. Incest doesn't squick me out as much as it does for most people, thankfully, but regardless, this was a very powerful book that will blow your preconceptions about "appropriate love" right out of the water. Good review!

  5. Wow this book is 2 for 2 so far in the reviews I've read. I'll definitely think about picking this up even if it's not usually what I read.

I love getting comments! I'm always checking to see if I have any new comments. It's actually pretty sad how often I check for them really. So if there is anything you want to say about a post of mine, please say it! I want feedback :)

As of lately, I'm making the blog a no-award blog. I love getting them and I'm always honored, but I don't have the time to do all the things that are required of them. Sorry :(
Also, my "reply" button does not seem to be working in my comments on my computer. I have to use a different computer to reply back so if I don't reply, it's not because I'm rude, it's just that I can't.
