Review: Falling Under

Falling Under by Gwen Hayes
Published by New American Library
Genre: paranormal YA
$9.99 (US paperback)
324 pages

What it's about:
Theia Alderson has always led a sheltered life in the small California town of Serendipity Falls. But when a devastatingly handsome boy appears in the halls of her school, Theia knows she's seen Haden before- not around town, but in her dreams.

As the Haden of both the night and the day beckons her closer one moment and pushes her away the next, the only thing Theia knows for sure is that the incredible pull she feels towards him is stronger than her fear.

And when she discovers what Haden truly is, Theia's not sure if she wants to resist him, even if the cost is her soul

My thoughts:
You know how any YA paranormal book is now compared to Twilight and how it is annoying? Well this book honestly is like Twilight in every single way possible. There was even a Twilight reference in it. I recognized a few lines from Twilight that could have been taken directly from it and the love interest even calls Theia "lamb." *gag* It was so bad that I had to give up on the book for awhile. Start reading something else.

I don't know why it bothered me so much, but I really couldn't get over it. It colored my view of the book. Tainted it.

At first I was actually liking the book. I got pretty into it. It wasn't until all the Twilight references started popping up did the book start to go downhill for me. It was too much like a bunch of books I've read and not enough originality to the story. I just had a hard time caring about the characters. Besides the best friends. I liked them. I thought they were funny.

As for the love story, I didn't really get it. She was having creepy dreams about the guy and all the sudden she loves him? I get that people tend to like the guy who pays the most attention to them, but seriously? I really didn't feel it. Theia was acting way too fast on her emotions.

Overall, it wasn't a bad book, it just wasn't fantastic. I would have liked to have seen more originality to the story.

Was anyone else reminded of the Panic! At the Disco music video for I Write Sins, Not Tragedies?

Haden???
My rating: 7/10

  2. Hmm that's unfortunate. I still love the cover though. It's always a super hot guy that these YA fiction girls fall head over heels for. Why can't it be the nerd?!?? I <3 nerds in case you can't tell :)

I saw Panic at the Disco recently. I'm not a huge fan of their music but wow the lead singer is SO funny!!!

  3. I just got this book because I thought it would be a good read. But if it's going to be like twilight then I'm not sure anymore haha..I'm still going to give it a try though. Thanks for the honest review :) The cover is beautiful, part of the reason why i bought it! Now we just got to see if the actual content is good..

I love getting comments! I'm always checking to see if I have any new comments. It's actually pretty sad how often I check for them really. So if there is anything you want to say about a post of mine, please say it! I want feedback :)

As of lately, I'm making the blog a no-award blog. I love getting them and I'm always honored, but I don't have the time to do all the things that are required of them. Sorry :(
Also, my "reply" button does not seem to be working in my comments on my computer. I have to use a different computer to reply back so if I don't reply, it's not because I'm rude, it's just that I can't.
